US investment bank Jefferies has hired former JPMorgan analyst Sebastian Woodard to its local team, as it continues to grow its footprint after pushing further into this market with a raid on CLSA last year.
DataRoom understands the appointment will be announced to staff as early as Wednesday, and Mr Woodard will join Jefferies’ small caps coverage. He will work alongside Jefferies analysts including Michael Aspinall, who joined in 2019 from CLSA, and former Avoca funds manager turned analyst John Campbell.
Mr Woodard’s LinkedIn profile shows he joined JPMorgan almost five years ago, and was most recently in institutional equity sales. He parted ways with the bank in late 2019.
The Australian last year revealed that Jefferies had swooped on 25 CLSA staff in one hit, helping to establish its local presence in equities trading and research.
Globally, New York-listed Jefferies provides investment banking, equities, fixed-income and asset and wealth management services. It has a large focus on the technology sector, including in equity research.
