Change is afoot within the Australian ranks of Goldman Sachs, with Ed Wittig returning home from the New York office to take on a senior role as a co-head of mergers and acquisitions for the region.

Sources said that Ed Wittig, currently located in the New York office, is returning to Australia to work in the top ranks of the Wall Street bank, based in Australia as one of three M&A co-heads for Asia Pacific.

Mr Wittig, a Goldman Sachs banker with the title of managing director and a partner, made the move from Sydney to New York some time back after working locally as the bank’s head of industrials coverage.

Currently, the Australia and New Zealand head of Goldman Sachs is Simon Rothery, while Nick Sims and Zach Fletcher are co heads of investment banking for Australia and New Zealand, and Marissa Freund is Head of Mergers and Acquisitions for Australia, and will remain in that role.

It comes after Goldman Sachs recently replaced its Head of Equities for Australia and New Zealand with ex Credit Suisse banker Mark Davis after operatives were poached by Jefferies, including its head of equities for Australia and New Zealand, Mario Argyrides.
