Citi’s Australian-based capital markets banker John McLean is taking on a new role as Head of Global Asset Managers for the Asia Pacific.
As part of his new job description, he will head up private equity coverage across the region.
He will initially carry out the role from Sydney before moving to Hong Kong once global travel is permitted amid the Covid-19 environment.
Mr McLean, a managing director, has been Citi’s head of capital markets origination for Australia and New Zealand since 2010.
His new role comes as Jon Gidney starts as Citi’s Australia and New Zealand head of financial institutions and after Dragi Ristevski, who headed Australia and New Zealand private equity coverage, departed to Credit Suisse.
Local resources head Richard Saywell has also recently left Citi while managing director, Nick Forster, has recently relocated to Citi New Zealand to focus on clients in that market
Mr McLean will report to New York-based Global Co-Head of Asset Managers, Anthony Diamandakis, Vice Chairman, Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory, and Global Co-Head of Global Asset Managers, John Eydenberg, and Citi’s APAC Head of Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory, Jan Metzger.
“While we will miss working with John every day, he leaves behind an experienced team who have distinguished themselves executing on a range of significant equity offerings in recent years,” said Tony Osmond, Head of Citi Australia’s Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory function, which encompasses all of Citi’s corporate advisory, capital markets and lending business in Australia and New Zealand.
“Just this year, Citi has raised over $2 billion for Australian and New Zealand corporates, including Afterpay, Novonix and the Lynch Group, while also assisting companies and several government agencies raise more than $24 billion in the debt capital markets.”
