A GOLD Coast father-and-son team have launched a new app targeted at tradies struggling to keep pace with the construction boom.

Darren and Brandon Bedford developed the all-in-one project management app Build Ezi over 22 months after grappling with a multitude of building issues working in the construction sector.

Darren Bedford, who has worked three decades in construction, said his light bulb moment came after a long hard day at a work site building a duplex in Miami.

“I came home from the site frustrated with the lack of communication between the builder and the subbies. I thought, surely there is a better and simpler way for small contractors to communicate,” he said.

Mr Bedford said he jotted down ideas for a comprehensive app that took care of everything a tradie or contractor could possibly need to document and manage a worksite with ease.

They included tradies being able to document Punch/To-do lists, RFI’s, variations and much more, including task setting and scheduling, employee management, automatic client, staff and contractor notifications to keep them up to date with the work program, and a library of all induction documents including health and safety information.

Importantly, the app was to be designed for mobile use, meaning users only needed to pull out their smartphone to keep up to date with their tasks and documentation.

“Building has changed a huge amount in the past 30 years – the level of compliance and

documentation is far higher these days,” Mr Bedford said.

“With the day-to-day workload, contractors are losing family time while they try to balance the physical workload as well as staying on top of their admin requirements.

“Tradies and contractors need to spend more time on the tools and less on documenting their

actions – this app enables them to do just that, in real time, and is a huge leap forward for the

industry.”

Mr Bedford said he teamed up with son Brandon because he wanted a young builder’s viewpoint on the app and its functionality in the modern worksite.

Brandon Bedord said Build Ezi’s simplicity was one of its chief advantages over other apps in the market.

“The real key to its success is the clear and instant communication solution it offers,” he said.

“Users love using their mobile for documentation, employee management, work scheduling and accessing and uploading safety documents.

“Over the next year we’re going to push this out nationwide as we believe every tradie and

contractor in Australia needs this app.”

Build Ezi is the latest in a long line of technology businesses to move to or be established on the Gold Coast including Desygner, AutoGuru and Machinery4U.

The app is available for download on the Apple App store and Google Play store.
