James Packer’s Sydney casino dream could be further delayed with the launch of a legal challenge against planning approval for the Barangaro resort.

Crown Resorts, which is majority owned by Mr Packer, announced today that it had been served with legal proceedings from the Millers Point Fund Incorporated.

The applicant is challenging the validity of the decision of the NSW Planning Assessment Commission to approve the casino.

Crown said it would defend the proceedings vigorously.

The company said the legal proceedings name the Minister for Planning, the Barangaroo Delivery Authority, the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, Lend Lease and Crown Sydney as respondents.

The case is set down to be heard in the Land and Environment Court of NSW on August 26.
