Medibank boss Craig Drummond has selected a former NAB alumnus to join his executive team as he prepares to reveal to investors his strategy for the health insurance giant.

The company announced today that former NAB general manager of groups performance and planning, Mark Rogers, was its new chief financial officer, a role that was vacated two months’ ago by Paul Koppelman. During his four-year tenure at the insurer, Mr Koppelman oversaw Medibank’s $5.7 billion listing on the Australian market in November 2014.

“Mark’s professional experience means that he comes to our organisation with a blend of strong financial experience and sectorial knowledge, which will be beneficial for our organisation,” Mr Drummond, a former NAB executive, said.

“His appointment completes the renewal of the executive leadership team giving us a strong base to deliver on our strategy and refocus the business on our customers.”

The CFO appointment comes a week before Mr Drummond reveals to investors his strategy for the health insurance giant.

Medibank’s (MPL) chief executive said in September, when he announced his executive shake-up, that the health insurer’s efforts to improve customer experience had fuelled the changes to his leadership team in an attempt to ensure that there was clear focus and accountability on delivering improved outcomes

Since taking the top job in July, Mr Drummond has refocused the company on customers as complaints against the insurer have soared this year. Medibank is also facing allegations from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission of misleading customers

To prove his focus on customers, Mr Drummond has tied executives’ financial rewards to customer satisfaction.

The company announced the bulk of its executive leadership changes in September, which saw David Koczkar assume the role of group executive chief customer officer and Andrew Wilson, group executive provider networks and integrated care, also became accountable for Medibank’s strategy and innovation.

Mei Ramsay, company secretary, was appointed to the executive leadership team as group executive legal, governance and regulatory affairs. Her portfolio also now includes compliance and regulatory affairs.

The company had also announced in August that former Sportsbet technology head John Goodall would join the company as group executive technology and operations.
