ANZ chairman David Gonski AC will join the Sydney Airport board as a non-executive director.

Mr Gonski is chancellor of the University of New South Wales, a member of the ASIC external advisory panel and currently sits on the board of the Lowy Institute for International Policy. He is also president of the Art Gallery of NSW trust.

“David brings with him decades of experience working successfully in business and with all levels of Australian government,” Sydney Airport (SYD) chairman Trevor Gerber said.

“We expect he will make a valuable contribution to our board and senior leadership team.”

Mr Gonski will join the Sydney Airport board from late September, the company said in a statement to the market this morning.

“I am pleased to be joining the board of Sydney Airport and am looking forward to working with my fellow directors and with the CEO Geoff Culbert and his team to support Sydney Airport’s future success,” Mr Gonski said.

He was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2007 and received the Centenary Medal in 2003.
