OUTGOING CSIRO chief executive Dr Megan Clark will join mining giant Rio Tinto’s board of directors.
Dr Clark, who has led the CSIRO since 2009, will take up a position as non-executive director of the global miner from today.
Rio (RIO) chairman Jan du Plessis said Dr Clark had extensive mining experience, having previously worked for Western Mining Corporation and BHP Billiton before joining the CSIRO.
“Megan not only has extensive mining experience, but is highly regarded and has, throughout her career, forged a strong reputation for driving a culture of innovation and technology, making her a great fit for Rio Tinto,” he said in a statement.
Dr Clark was due to leave the CSIRO in December, but Rio Tinto said she would step down from that position immediately.
