Amazon to lead $835m funding round in Deliveroo
Amazon is dipping its foot into food delivery as its leads a $835m funding round into Deliveroo.
Deliveroo says Amazon.com Inc will lead a $US575 million ($835m) series G funding round in the UK based food-delivery company.
Other investors include T. Rowe Price Group Inc., Fidelity Management & Research Company and Greenoaks, Deliveroo said.
The latest round of investment will bring the total capital raised by Deliveroo to $US1.53bn ($2.22), the company said.
Deliveroo, which operates across 14 markets in Europe and Asia, said it will invest heavily in expanding its London-based technology team and rolling out more specialist kitchens to prepare food for delivery.
“This new investment will help Deliveroo to grow and to offer customers even more choice, tailored to their personal tastes,” chief executive Will Shu said.
