Would you rather be the boss of Adelaide City Council or run a caravan park with a view of Wilpena Pound?
High-paying roles on offer in South Australia range from running the Adelaide City Council, to something a little more remote in the Flinders Ranges.
Does your dream job involve wrangling budgets worth millions, helping nurture the next generation of leaders, or perhaps something more remote? This month’s round up of high-paying roles on offer in South Australia includes all three.
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER – CITY OF ADELAIDE
With former boss Mark Goldstone quitting this role due to ill health earlier this year, the top job at the state’s arguably most important council is up for grabs. Acting chief executive Clare Mockler has been sitting in for the time being, and is a firm favourite among councillors to be in the running for the job, however if you think you’ve got the drive and experience to “advance the role that the City of Adelaide plays as the capital city of South Australia”, among other things, why not chuck your hat in the ring?
CARAVAN PARK MANAGER – COUPLE – RAWNSLEY PARK STATION
Don’t we all sometimes dream of escaping the rat race, and what better place to land than the Flinders Ranges? With a salary of $200,000-$230,000 plus incentive for a couple to manage the Rawnsley Park Station caravan park it’s an attractive offer, but it’s a fair bet there’s a lot more to it than sitting around the campfire with backpackers. The gig comes with a three-bedroom house at nominal rent, but you’ll be responsible for employing your own staff and managing bookings for related tourism activities like 4WD tours and scenic flights. The family-owned business is looking for a couple to take on the role for at least a two-year term.
PRINCIPAL – PEMBROKE
One of the state’s pre-eminent private schools is looking for a new leader, after previous principal Luke Thomson decided to retire in mid-2022 after 12 years in the role. Not surprisingly the standards are pretty high, with the school seeking “a future-focused, progressive and relational leader, with a commitment to ensuring that the students who leave Pembroke, do so ready to navigate life with confidence, and to make a difference to their local and global communities’’. They’re not giving away what the role pays but with school fees coming in at $27,636 for year 10-12 students you’d have to think it would be up there.
DIRECTOR OF FINANCE AND OPERATIONS – SEYMOUR COLLEGE
And while we’re on schools which cost an arm and a leg, Seymour is after someone to manage their finances.
DIRECTOR COMMUNICATIONS AND ENGAGEMENT – DHS
With Jayne Flaherty off to join her former boss at BankSA, and now Department of Premier and Cabinet chief Nick Reade, her former role is up for grabs. The Department of Human Services is looking for someone with good digital skills and a background in strategic comms. Generous salary sacrifice provisions make these roles all the more attractive.
GENERAL MANAGER – CHINA – DETMOLD GROUP
Most famous recently for coming to the rescue when Australia was short a surgical mask or a million just over a year ago, privately-owned Detmold is a large international player in the packaging area, with clients such as McDonalds on the books. With sales offices in 17 countries, manufacturing in seven and 3000 staff, it’s an impressive business. The company is looking for someone to head up China, “the largest and most successful of our operations business’’. “Commencing initially in Adelaide, you will undertake a full business induction, ensuring understanding of the Group processes and practices prior to your relocation to China,’’ the role description says. At least you won’t be trying to sell wine.
Other executive roles on offer this month include:
CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER – PIPER ALDERMAN
CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER – SOUTH AUSTRALIAN CRICKET ASSOCIATION
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR INNOVATION AND CULTURE – SA HEALTH
