Beyond Bank’s ‘war for talent’ to fill $60k-$130k-plus Aus jobs

Financial institution Beyond Bank says its ongoing struggle to fill up to 70 roles, offering salaries from $60,000-$130,000, is an indication of Australia’s ‘war for talent’.

South Australian financial institution Beyond Bank has had up to 70 jobs on offer since February as part of its plans to grow, but says it can’t find any takers for the positions.

Vacancies exist across its metro and regional centres nationally, including entry-level positions offering an annual salary range of $60,000-$90,000 right through to managerial roles with a $90,000-$130,000 annual pay band and $130,000-plus leadership opportunities.

“We are a growing business and there is no doubt there is a war for talent going on in the marketplace generally,” chief executive Robert Keogh said.

“We do have a number of quite important roles in our business that we are looking to recruit in and we’re trying to expand.”

One of the largest customer-owned banks in the nation, Beyond Bank has about 650 employees, 250,000 customers, more than 40 branches across SA, WA, NSW, Victoria and the ACT and three call centres in Adelaide, Perth and Canberra.

It provides financial services including home, investment and personal lending, wealth management, business banking and community banking.

In March, Beyond Bank signed a three-year major partnership with the Melbourne Football Club.

“We’re looking for some roles in Melbourne, Queensland, WA, in our digital area, in our IT area, in our community team and in our risk team,” Mr Keogh said.

The business is offering training and has put in flexible working arrangements, but is yet to fill the significant gaps.

“I think there is a war for talent at this stage.

“There is demand for, you know, a narrow pool of people, for employers to target. And that’s why there’s a shortage at the moment.”

He said it was a concern for the organisation not to be able to resource necessary skills.

“The way in which organisations respond … is that you either stop doing certain things or you ask more of your people or you contract your opportunity to grow.

“So they’re the options that are on the table for you.”
