Qantas has redesigned its coveted business class pyjamas with a new kangaroo logo to reflect the airline’s recent brand revamp.

The new pyjamas will feature Qantas’s recently redesigned roo, which has been given a more streamlined look and had its front paw removed.

The pyjama top has also been redesigned and now features a raglan-style sleeve which has the seam running from the underarm to the collar bone. The pants have also had a slight change and now come with a drawstring, which Qantas says is a more relaxed fit.

The pyjamas remain grey but the colour of the kangaroo has been changed from black to navy. The pyjamas also feature Qantas’s new slimmed-down typeface across the back of the shirt.

“There is no doubt that our business class sleepwear is an important aspect of the overall customer experience,” said Qantas head of customer product and service development Phillip Capps.

“They’ve become part of the in-flight dress code with about 95 per cent of people not only wearing them on board, but also taking them home.

“We introduced sleepwear in the late 1990s and with each design update throughout the years, we’ve made tweaks and adjustments to ensure they offer style and much-needed comfort when you are laying in them for up to 15 hours.”

The new-look pyjamas will be available for customers travelling on select international routes from November 7.

Those international flights include Los Angeles, Dallas/Fort Worth, San Francisco, Hawaii, Santiago, Singapore, Hong Kong, Beijing, Tokyo, Johannesburg, Shanghai, Vancouver, Dubai and London.

The change to Qantas’s sought-after pyjamas comes after the airline last week revealed a major livery and brand makeover with new fonts, logos that refer to the airline’s past, and a paw-less roo, to herald the arrival of its newest aircraft, the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, next year.

The redesign is only the fifth time Qantas has changed the red and white kangaroo since it was introduced in 1944.

Qantas last updated its kangaroo logo in 2007 to coincide with the delivery of the Airbus A380 superjumbo.

The new design has a more streamlined kangaroo, which has had its paw removed and shading added to give it more depth.

Encircled kangaroos referring to the famous winged kangaroo that graced aircraft tails for more than three decades have been added under the cockpit window.

A kangaroo has also been added to the inside curved edge of the wingtips, which will be visible when passengers take pictures through the window. That takes the kangaroo count on twin-engine planes from four to eight.

The design, the brainchild of long-time Qantas collaborator Marc Newson, also comes with a slimmer font for the fuselage branding and a giant Qantas sign will be emblazoned on a plane’s belly to make it easier for planespotters to pick out the aircraft.
