‘New mid-sized airplane’ excites Qantas chief Alan Joyce

Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce has again expressed an interest in Boeing’s possible “new mid-sized airplane” project.
Asked whether Qantas could be a customer for the NMA small widebody when it launches, Mr Joyce said “we are actually excited and I think a lot of carriers are about the potential for that aircraft. It’s still a paper aircraft so Boeing have to define the spec of it, the weight of it, the performance and the price of it.
“But it looks like it’s being pitched as an aircraft that would work very well in the domestic market,” he said, noting that it was set to have a range that could possibly fly into Southeast Asia.
Mr Joyce said it could be “very helpful” in Sydney as it “becomes full in particular”.
