Boeing 787 Dreamliner beats out A380 for Qantas Perth-London route
The debate about the A380 versus the B787 Dreamliner is about to kick off again.
The debate about the A380 versus the B787 Dreamliner is about to kick off again.
Passengers flying on the new Qantas Melbourne-Perth-London service will be flying on the Boeing Dreamliner from March 24 next year.
This will replace the Melbourne-Dubai-London service that flew on the A380.
The A380 that had worked that route will instead be used to meet high demand on growing Asian destinations such as Hong Kong and Singapore.
Qantas Group chief executive Alan Joyce said the new Perth-London route — longer than the carrier’s longest flight of Sydney to Dallas Fort Worth — was “the kind of route that the Dreamliner was created for”.
Qantas revealed tickets for the 14,498km flight will start at $2270 for economy class.
Meanwhile, Emirates yesterday announced its third daily service to Melbourne, which goes via Dubai, would be an all-A380 service. It will start on March 25 next year, adding 945 seats a week to Melbourne.
