World champion cyclist Rohan Dennis arrested over wife’s death in car crash

Police have arrested former world champion cyclist Rohan Dennis following a car crash that killed his wife.

An Australian world champion cyclist has been arrested and charged over the death of his wife following a car crash in South Australia on Saturday.

South Australian Police arrested and charged Rohan Dennis, 33, after his wife Melissa Hoskins was struck by a vehicle in Adelaide’s inner-north about 8pm.

Ms Hoskins, 32, suffered serious injuries in the crash and paramedics took her to Royal Adelaide Hospital for further treatment.

She passed away at the hospital.

“Major Crash officers attended the scene along with detectives from Eastern District CIB to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the police said on Sunday.

“Following an investigation, a 33-year-old Medindie man has been arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving without due care and endangering life.”

The crash allegedly happened close to the couple’s home.

Mr Dennis is now on bail and will appear at Adelaide Magistrates Court on March 13.

The couple married in February 2918 and share two children together.

Mr Dennis was a world champion cyclist and Commonwealth Games gold medallist.

Ms Hoskins was also a world-class cyclist, competing at the 2012 London Olympics and 2016 Rio Olympics.
