Major road reopens after woman killed after car crashes into home in Sydney’s southwest

A police probe is underway after a woman believed to be in her 80s was killed when a car slammed into a suburban home.

A major arterial roadway has reopened hours after a woman was killed when the car she was in ploughed into a home in Sydney’s southwest.

Emergency services were called to the property on Punchbowl Rd, Belfield at about 10.30am on Monday.

Photographs from the scene of the crash show significant damage to part of the home and numerous emergency services personnel in the front yard.

NSW Police say a female passenger was trapped inside the car “for some time” before she was freed.

Paramedics treated the woman - who is yet to be identified - but she died at the scene.

A spokesperson for NSW Police said the woman was believed to have been aged in her 80s.

The 82-year-old male driver was transported to hospital in a stable condition.

A crime scene has been established and police have launched inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Punchbowl Rd was closed in both directions following the incident.

By shortly after 2pm, the road had reopened to traffic in both directions albeit with contraflow conditions in place.

Motorists were advised to reduce their speed and to exercise caution when traveling through the area, and to expect further delays.
