Moment real estate agent Matthew Brian Ramsay arrested for brutal stabbing

Footage has captured the arrest of a prominent Sydney real estate agent after the stabbing of a woman in Dover Heights.

Footage has emerged of a former hot shot real estate agent being arrested by police on a Sydney street following an alleged stabbing.

The ex-real estate agent, who helped complete billions of dollars’ worth of property deals, and is accused of stabbing his best friend’s wife outside her Sydney home.

Matthew Brian Ramsay, who was the best man at the couple’s wedding, did not leave the cells at Waverley Local Court on Tuesday morning after he was charged over the alleged attack on the mother-of-two.

According to court documents, a 45-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed in the chest after answering the door at her $4.5 million home in Dover Heights about 12.30pm Monday.

The alleged victim’s husband told The Daily Telegraph his wife was doing “the best she can”, recovering from the alleged stabbing.

He also told media his wife’s alleged attacker was close to the family.

“He was the best man at our wedding, God father of our children … how do you think I feel,” he said.

The man said he was doing his best to comfort the kids.

“We’ve done our best (to explain to the kids) … it’s all a bit weird,” he said.

“Could you imagine the person who was the best man at your wedding and the godfather to your daughter doing that? It’s exactly like that.”

Defence lawyer Andrew O’Brien mentioned the matter before Magistrate Jacqueline Milledge on Tuesday morning, but Mr Ramsay did not appear in court.

He has been charged with causing wound/grievous bodily harm with intent to murder.

Mr O’Brien told the court his client had also been charged with shoplifting.

“I know, there’s quite a disparity,” he said.

Mr O’Brien did not apply for the real estate agent to be released on bail and adjourned the grievous bodily harm charge to be dealt with in October.

However, court documents reveal Mr Ramsay was charged with larceny in July after he allegedly stole $31 worth of snacks from an Ampol Foodary.

Mr Ramsay allegedly stole a Snickers bar, two Oak brand flavoured milks, a packet of Mars pods chocolates and two Ice brand flavoured milk drinks.

His lawyer told the court he will be applying for a mental health application to have the larceny charge dismissed.

Mr Ramsay will face court on September 5 for the application.

“If the Mental Health application isn’t successful it’ll be a plea of guilty,” Mr O’Brien said.

Mr Ramsay is understood to have last worked at Stanton Hillier Parker and prior to that as a director and partner at Ray White Commercial, according to his LinkedIn profile.

The victim's harrowing screams alerted a nearby tradie to the ordeal, who rushed over to help.

Peter Haramis told NCA NewsWire he started to run when he heard her screams become more panicked.

“She was just screaming: ‘Help me! Help! He’s gonna kill me!’

“Then I started running up the hill.

“He sort of looked at me and he froze for a second and I thought, I’m gonna have to run at him here. I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

But then the woman managed to get the knife off the man and threw it past Mr Haramis on the grass.

“I picked up the knife … he started walking towards me,” he said.

“She jumped up, ran in the house, locked the door.

“He was just walking towards me saying: ‘Give me the knife.’

“I said: ‘No, you’re not getting it.’

“Then the guy just calmly turns around and starts walking up the hill to his car.”

Mr Haramis immediately called for police and an ambulance, then followed the man up to his car to get a description of the vehicle.

Ramsay was arrested a short time later on Campbell Pde in Bondi.

Paramedics who treated the victim at the scene described her injuries as “horrific”, telling 7 News that had the wound been slightly to the left or right, the outcome would have been very different.

She remains in a stable condition in hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
