A woman is fighting for her life after being found unresponsive in the water at a popular swimming and fishing destination.

A woman is fighting for life after being found unresponsive in water in a popular Melbourne beach on Friday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to Frankston Pier in Melbourne’s southeast about 1.45pm on Friday afternoon after reports a woman had been found in the water.

Paramedics treated the woman at the scene before she was taken to Frankston Hospital in a critical condition.

Frankston Pier is located near the Frankston Foreshore Reserve and is a popular spot for fishing and swimming.

Frankston is a suburb of Melbourne approximately 54km from the city centre.
