A group of two women and three men were hit with the $1652 fine after police were called to a property at the Mornington Peninsula following reports of loud music, Victoria Police said on Sunday.
The group told police “we are idiots” after they were asked about their reason for drinking together in breach of the Chief Health Officer’s directions.
Another man was nabbed leaving a Glen Eira petrol station after curfew and told police he bought chocolate for a friend with diabetes who had low blood sugar.
But when asked to show police the chocolate the man admitted he was lying and showed them cigarettes he’d bought.
An Altona Meadows man was pulled over 20km away from his home in Brimbank and claimed he was visiting a friend despite being aware of restrictions because he “got bored at home”.
In Airport West five men were whacked with fines after they were found inside a vehicle “just out chilling”.
In the past 24 hours Victoria Police issued 199 fines including to 20 people who didn’t wear a mask when leaving home, 14 at vehicle checkpoints and 73 for curfew breaches.
