WA Police shoot man after alleged domestic violence incident at Dumbleyung

A male police officer was allegedly assaulted while responding to a domestic violence incident, with a firearm allegedly discharged during the altercation.

WA Police have shot a man following an alleged early morning family violence incident.

Officers were called to a home in Dumbleyung, some 270km southeast of Perth, about 12.30am on Saturday.

A man and woman believed to be involved in an altercation were separated by police upon arrival, the police said on Saturday morning.

“While officers were conducting inquiries at the home, a male officer was physically assaulted,” the police said.

“During the incident a police firearm was discharged causing injuries to a male person in his 30s.”

The man was flown to Royal Perth Hospital with non-fatal injuries, while the male officer was taken to Narrogin Hospital with a laceration to his head.

“Inquiries remain ongoing,” the police said.

“The incident remains under investigation by detectives from Major Crime Division, with oversight by the Internal Affair Unit.”
