WA Police launch major operation believed to be linked to killing of Rebels bikie boss Nick Martin
Police formed a ring of steel to protect a police station where detectives questioned a man over the execution of a Rebels bikie boss.
A ring of steel has been formed around a Perth police station where detectives are reportedly questioning a man over the public execution of Rebels bikie boss Nick Martin.
Western Australia Police launched a major operation in the city’s south on Monday believed to be linked to Martin’s death in December last year.
Police, including local detectives, forensics officers and officers from the Australian Federal Police, spent hours canvassing a house in Waikiki and bushland in nearby Warnbro about 50km south of the CBD.
A man was reportedly arrested at the Shoalhaven Place address and taken away for questioning, with The West Australian reporting police were guarding the station where he was being interviewed on Monday night as they feared a revenge attack over the 51-year-old’s death.
The newspaper said charges could be laid on Tuesday.
Western Australia Police have not released any information regarding the major operation, but media reports suggest it is linked to the shocking public assassination of Martin at the Perth Motorplex in Kwinana on December 12.
Police suspect Martin was shot dead by a sniper from a distance of about 300m away while attending an event with his wife Amanda. The shooting was witnessed by horrified families and children about 8.30pm.
Detectives seized cars, a motorbike and a boat and carted away bags of evidence from the Waikiki property in the operation that brought parts of Perth’s south to a standstill on Monday.
Local residents said the streets of Waikiki had been locked down since 7am on Monday, with police helicopters also circling the area.
“All around my house, very worrying,” one said.
Western Australia Police have vowed to stop at nothing to catch the killer responsible for Martin’s murder, with police offering a $1m reward for information that leads to a conviction.
The bullet that killed Martin also managed to wound former Bandido Ricky Chapman, the partner of Martin’s stepdaughter Stacey Schoppe, and a five-year-old boy.
It comes after police charged a 36-year-old Morley man on Monday over an alleged drive-by shooting at the home of a Mongols outlaw motorcycle gang member on March 11 this year.
A shooting also targeted the home of Rebels bikie Dayne Brajkovich on March 3.
