Two cops cars allegedly rammed, police officer punched in Qld
A man and a woman have been charged after two cop cars were allegedly rammed and an officer was punched while trying to stop a moving vehicle.
A couple has been charged after allegedly ramming police cars in a stolen vehicle and assaulting an officer on the Sunshine Coast.
Officers spotted the duo in a white Toyota Kluger wagon, which police allege was stolen, parked outside a house on Webster Road, Nambour around 5.40pm on Thursday.
As an officer approached the vehicle, the 31-year-old male driver allegedly reversed into a police car in an attempt to flee.
Then an officer opened the driver’s door and was allegedly repeatedly punched by the driver who then sped off down Webster Road with the cop still in the driver’s side of the car.
About 100 metres down the vehicle slammed into the side of another police car, it is alleged.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a handgun and substances alleged to be drugs.
A 31-year-old Coolum Beach man is facing 15 charges including unlawful use of a motor vehicle, receiving tainted property and evasion, serious assault police, unlawful possession of weapons, stealing, possessing dangerous drugs and driving unlicensed.
A 23-year-old Buderim woman, who was alleged to have been the passenger, has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, obstruct police and possess tainted property.
The 33-year-old male officer involved in the arrest was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The man was due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday while the woman was due to appear on February 25.
