Traumatic scenes as woman becomes impaled on high school fence
A woman has been hospitalised after her arm was impaled and she was left ‘dangling’ from a fence at a suburban high school.
A woman has had her arm impaled on a fence and had to be cut free after attempting to recover her daughter’s phone at a high school in northwest Sydney.
Police, NSW Ambulance and Fire Rescue NSW were called to Riverstone High School shortly before 9am Saturday after reports a woman had become impaled on a fence.
When the authorities arrived, they discovered a 37-year-old woman “dangling by her left arm” on a fence about 2m in the air.
“It’s evident that the fence tore some of the flesh which caused significant pain to her,” NSW Ambulance inspector Nathan Sheraton told 7News.
Tradies at the scene propped up a ladder for her to stand on in an effort to relieve some pressure from the woman’s arm.
“A platform was set up to allow access to the casualty and under the guidance of Aeromedical Doctors and NSW Ambulance, firefighters worked to remove the impalement and free the casualty from the fence,” Fire and Rescue NSW Station 83 Riverstone wrote online.
The woman was treated at the scene for an injury to her upper arm before being taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The woman was scaling the fence to try and retrieve her daughter’s phone, which had been left at the school, the outlet reports.
Inspector Sheraton warned others of the dangers of scaling the fence to retrieve personal items inside the school, and alternatives were available.
“If you ever want to enter a school, there’s always sign boards on the school fence with the number of the security personnel,” he told the outlet.
“Don’t climb the fence, it’s dangerous.”
No trespassing charges are being considered at this stage, a NSW Police spokesperson told NewsWire.
