Two people have died in road accidents in South Australia and NSW on Thursday in a horror start to the Easter long weekend.

Two people have died on roads across Australia in a tragic start to the Easter long weekend.

In South Australia, police are investigating after a 56-year-old man died in a single-vehicle accident at Two Wells, north of Adelaide.

Emergency services were called to the crash at Old Port Wakefield Rd just after 5pm on Thursday.

The driver died when his Holden sedan crashed into a tree.

Despite efforts to revive him, the man, from Findon in Adelaide’s western suburbs, died at the scene, making him the 21st person to die on South Australian roads this year.

South Australian police from the major crash unit are investigating the circumstances of the accident.

Meanwhile, an elderly pedestrian has died after an accident in Sydney’s southwest late on Thursday evening.

Emergency services were called to the accident at Oxley St, Campbelltown about 11.15pm after a man – who is believed to be 80 years old – was hit by a car.

The man was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

The 26-year-old male driver was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
