A surfer has been flown to hospital after he was attacked by a white shark in waters off Kangaroo Island in South Australia.

A surfer has been flown to hospital after he was attacked by a white shark in waters off Kangaroo Island in South Australia.

Emergency services were called to D’Estrees Bay about 2.20pm on Sunday following reports a man had been bitten.

The 29-year-old man managed to paddle back to shore and was being driven to the town of Kingscote by a member of the public when paramedics met the car.

The man, who is a Kangaroo Island local, was then flown to Adelaide for treatment.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The beach has been closed and signs will be put up.
