‘Stop’: Brittany Higgins lashes out at former boss Linda Reynolds

Brittany Higgins has condemned her former boss on social media, urging her to stop her public comments regarding her compensation payout.

Brittany Higgins saga been more about scoring ‘political points’ than securing justice

Brittany Higgins has hit out at Linda Reynolds, pleading with her to stop her pursuit of information regarding the former staffer’s compensation payout from the federal government.

Ms Higgins took to social media to condemn the actions of her former employer on Tuesday, posting examples of recent headlines where Ms Reynolds had spoken out about her.

“This is from a current Australian Senator ... this has been going on for years now,” she wrote.

“It is time to stop.”

The headlines included a story about Ms Reynolds indicating she would refer Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus to the National Anti-Corruption Commission over the compensation payment given to Ms Higgins in the wake of her rape allegations.

The Australian has reported Ms Higgins received at least $2.5 million in compensation after claiming up to 40 years of economic loss and the end of her political career following what she said was a mishandling of her allegations. The figure of the payout has never been released, and Ms Higgins has claimed it is well below $3 million, the figure initially reported.

Ms Higgins has alleged she was sexually assaulted by fellow Liberal staffer Bruce Lehrmann in the office of Ms Reynolds, a claim he has vehemently denied.

A trial against Mr Lehrmann was aborted following juror misconduct, and a retrial was scrapped due to fears for Ms Higgins’ mental health.

The charge against him was subsequently dropped.

“The basis for the settlement and the reasons why the Attorney-General barred me and Senator (Michaelia) Cash from defending serious allegations against us have not been explained to us or to the Australian people,” Ms Reynolds told The Australian.

“I believe that the Attorney-General must not only be impartial, but must also be seen to be impartial, which requires transparency.”

The other story included in Ms Higgins’ post was Ms Reynolds accusing the Attorney-General of “prejudice”, accusing him of denying her legal funding during the inquiry into the aborted rape trial against Mr Lehrmann for political reasons.

Ms Higgins wrote that “these are just headlines from today”.

“My boss who has publicly apologised for mishandling my rape allegation. Who has had to publicly apologise after defaming me in the workplace. Who is suing my fiance for a tweet,” Ms Higgins said.
