Skipper Roderick Miranda urges Melbourne Victory to ‘roll up sleeves’ to end crisis
Last season's grand finalists Melbourne Victory have crashed to the bottom of the A-League ladder, with captain Roderick Miranda revealing the team’s confidence crisis ahead of a crucial clash against Macarthur FC.
Melbourne Victory skipper Roderick Miranda admits his team is lacking confidence after three successive losses and a slide to the bottom of the A-League ladder.
With pressure mounting on embattled coach Arthur Diles, last season’s losing grand-finalists are desperate to avoid a fourth straight defeat on Friday night against Macarthur FC at Campbelltown Stadium.
“Everybody needs to hold each other accountable,” Miranda said.
“Everybody needs to have this desire from the inside to try to reverse the situation because it’s not the easiest situation.
“The team is trying to get our confidence back after the last few results not being in our favour, but it’s another opportunity for us to bounce back ... and start winning games.
“We are in this moment of tough games, tough losses, so it’s up to us as a team, as a collective with the fans, to try to change this.
“We have quality. We have a good squad to change a lot for the rest of the season.
“It’s up to us to roll up our sleeves, work hard, keep grinding and hopefully the results will come.”
The Victory will face a Macarthur team intent on avoiding successive home defeats after last Sunday’s unexpected 2-0 loss to Perth Glory.
“They also need to be aware of our strengths,” said Miranda, whose team has only scored four goals in six games this season.
“Hopefully, we can start to score some goals, because we have had chances – we just need to finish.
“Whenever we start to score, then things will change around.”
The Victory will be without midfielder Denis Genreau on Friday night after he was suspended for two games following his sending off in his team’s 1-0 loss to Brisbane Roar last Friday night.
