Two Sydney homes have been targeted in brazen shootings overnight, with shots fired while children and elderly residents were inside.

The first home was targeted on Queen St, Croydon Park at about 8pm on Friday.

Police were told a person was seen standing out the front and firing two shots from a pistol into the home, before getting into the driver’s seat of a white hatchback.

A 44-year-old man, three women - aged 40, 51, and 71 - were inside the home with a five-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl at the time.

No injuries were reported.

The white hatchback was last seen travelling north along Tavistock St, police say.

The incident is believed to be targeted.

Burwood Police Acting Superintendent Luke Scott said police were now appealing to the public about the whereabouts of the vehicle and its occupant.

“The same is true of anybody that may have any information in relation to the people who are sneaking around in the darkness at night time and hiding behind a gun to sort out their conflicts.

“I am absolutely concerned that anybody is shooting at a residence not knowing who is inside that premises.

“This is an example where young people are being put at risk based on the things that their families or their associates are involved in.”

“Anyone willing to put another person’s family at risk like that, we need to make sure that they are not in our community.”

Police say the incident is believed to be targeted and have urged anybody with information to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

Little more than three hours later at about 11.25pm, police received reports of gunshots being fired into a unit in Prairiewood.

An 80-year-old woman was inside at the time but was not injured.

Police say a white Ford Ranger was seen in the vicinity at the time of the second shooting.

It is believed at this stage to have been a case of mistaken identity.

There is no evidence at this stage to suggest the Prairiewood shooting is linked to the earlier incident at Croydon Park, according to police.
