Shoes found in search for young Queensland man missing nearly a week

The 27-year-old has been missing for six days, with police making an eerie find as the search for him becomes more desperate.

Shoe found in search for missing man

Shoes have been found in the search for a missing man last seen in a Queensland park nearly a week ago.

Jack McLennan was last seen between 8pm and 10pm on October 4 leaving the Ficks Crossing recreational grounds (between Wondai and Murgon) on foot.

Inspector Scott Stahlhut has now confirmed a pair of shoes has been found in the search.

“At this point I can confirm that we have located a pair of shoes, they were in the vicinity of Ficks Crossing about 200 meters from the Bunya Highway,” Inspector Stahlhut said.

“We’re confident that those shoes belonged to Jack, they have been identified by a close associate of Jack.

“We are still continuing that search and making numerous other inquiries in that regard.”

Fresh CCTV footage has also captured the 27-year-old going into what appears to be a bottle shop on Lamb Street in Murgon about 1.30pm on October 4.

From there Mr McLennan went to Ficks Crossing with a friend.

“The friend that he went with was the last person to see Jack and reported his concerns to his mother, I believe,” Inspector Stahlhut said.

“This is unusual for Jack. Some of you have some concerns for his well being...what we do know is that this type of behaviour is definitely out of character.

“Jack usually would tell someone that he was either leaving a place or where he was.”

The dive squad has searched in and around all bodies of water near Ficks Crossing, while ground and aerial searches remain ongoing.

Signs have also been placed along the Bunya Highway urging motorists to drive with care and report any potential sightings of Mr McLennan to police, with search operations set to continue on Friday.

Mr McLennan asked for accommodation about five days ago in a Facebook post, with Inspector Stahlhut saying police are “aware of Jack’s personal circumstances”.

“From my understanding, Jack was residing at a number of places, and he does have a place of residence in that area,” Inspector Stahlhut told the media on Thursday.

Mr McLennan is described as caucasian, about 185cm tall with light brown hair and brown eyes.

He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and dark shorts.

Police have urged people to check their properties — including outbuildings and sheds — for signs of Mr McLennan, and have encouraged anyone with information to come forward.

Those in the Ficks Crossing area between 3pm October 4 and 12pm October 5 have also been urged to come forward.

The search is set to continue for several days, however rainfall has had an impact.

“It has impacted on our ability to move freely,” Inspector Stahlhut said.

“We had some significant rainfall period last night, there are some waterway advisors. So that is having an impact on our search operations.”

Inspector Stahlhut earlier confirmed the rescue operation had been expanded to include the broader Murgon area as well as the Ficks Crossing and surrounding areas.

“Police would like residents in the area of Ficks Crossing and surrounds to conduct a search of their properties for any signs of Jack,” Inspector Stahlhut said.

“We currently have a number of specialised units on the ground conducting a search of waterways, banks and land in the area.

“Anyone with any information regarding his whereabouts is urged to come forward.”

Police on foot, motorbikes, police divers, SES, Remote Piloted Aerial System (RPAS) and Queensland Remote Area Tracking (QRAT) personnel have all been used in the search for Mr McLennan.
