A recall of food items sold at Coles was updated on Saturday to include supermarkets across Australia that could have sold the potentially contaminated product.

Coles released an updated statement on various spinach products they sell days after an initial recall wiped a number of highly-used fresh veggie items from their shelves.

The recall now effects items sold in Coles supermarkets, Coles Local stores and Coles Online in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Tasmania and the ACT.

It also includes some products sold in South Australia and the Northern Territory. The effected items were sold between Thursday March 20 and Saturday March 29, with use by dates up to and including April 9.

Coles has recalled the products due to potential microbial (STEC) contamination and have advised customers to not eat the products.

“Food products with microbial contamination may cause illness if consumed. Any customers concerned about their health should seek medical advice,” Coles said in a statement.
