Ryde Secondary and St Gertrude’s, Double Bay and Homebush schools close from coronavirus
Four Sydney schools have now issued alerts and closed on Friday from positive virus cases, including an after-hours childcare worker.
Coronavirus has forced the closure of four Sydney schools on Friday as the CBD cluster continues to grow.
The NSW Education department confirmed that Double Bay Public School and Homebush Public School had closed on Friday afternoon after staff members tested positive.
“A Double Bay Public School staff member has tested positive for COVID-19, as well as a staff member at the Cubbyhouse Childcare, an out of school hours centre located at Homebush Public School,” a spokesman said.
“All staff and students are asked to self-isolate while contact tracing occurs.”
Ryde Secondary College underwent deepcleaning on Friday after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19, while a student at St Gertrude’s Catholic Primary School also has the virus.
A statement from Ryde Secondary College said it had been “advised by NSW Health that a staff member has tested positive”.
“The school will be non-operational tomorrow for the on-site attendance of staff and students to allow time for the school to complete the contact tracing process and have the school cleaned,” the statement said.
All staff and students have been told to self-isolate while contact tracing occurs.
The news comes as health authorities are working to contain a growing COVID-19 cluster in Sydney's CBD that may have spread to the northern suburbs and Central Coast.
Another 13 new cases of coronavirus were recorded in NSW on Friday.
Six are linked to the Sydney CBD cluster, one is a returned traveller in hotel quarantine, two are linked to known clusters and four remain under investigation.
On Thursday NSW recorded nine cases and five are also believed to be linked to the cluster.
One of the cases worked at the David Jones food court on Elizabeth St, while the second new case travelled on four trains between Sydney and the Central Coast on Monday and Tuesday.
People who attended Harris Farm in Willoughby on Saturday are also being asked to watch for symptoms after a confirmed case went there between 4pm and 5pm that day.
There’s also an alert for PRP Diagnostic Imaging in Hornsby. A positive case attended on Monday between 10am and 11.15am.
Three of the inner-city cases attended the City Tattersalls Club gym.
Contact tracers are searching for patrons of two Fitness First clubs – one in Balgowlah and the other on Bond St.
NSW Health is also working to contact all patrons who were at the Hunters Hill Bowling Club’s indoor dining room on August 23 from 12pm to 2pm.
People who were there are considered close contacts and must isolate for two weeks regardless of their test result.
