A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being shot in the head, as police speak with another person who remains in custody.
West Australian Police responded to an incident in which a man was shot in the head at the intersection of Needham Road and Marauba Close, in Wooroloo, approximately 55km east of Perth’s CBD about 9am on Saturday.
Police have confirmed there is no longer an immediate threat to public safety.
Inspector Vic Hussey said another man had been taken into custody who was assisting with inquiries.
He said the Tactical Response Group and police canine unit had attempted to track other men suspected of being allegedly involved.
“As far as the other individuals that made off into the bush, their whereabouts at this stage is still unknown, but we are strongly of the opinion there is no threat to the community from those individuals,” he said.
Inspector Hussey said he couldn’t confirm whether the victim and man in custody knew each other.
“There are a lot of moving parts at the moment to this investigation,” he said.
“So I can’t make any comment in respect to that.”
Residents were earlier warned to lock their doors as specialist police responded to the shooting.
Paramedics attended to the wounded man’s injuries and a rescue helicopter flew him to the Royal Perth Hospital in a critical condition.
He remains in the intensive care receiving treatment.
A significant police presence remains in the area, including several specialist units.
Officers are searching the area for people believed to be involved in the terrifying incident.
Any suspicious activity should be reported to police immediately on triple-0.
Further information will be provided as the response to the incident continues.
