Raymond and Barbara Edwards charged with wilful damage for allegedly keying luxury cars in Brisbane

A pair accused of keying luxury vehicles have tried to make a quick dash from surrounding media attention as they left court.

An elderly married couple accused of keying luxury vehicles in broad daylight have tried to make a quick dash from unwanted media attention as they left court.

Raymond Edwards, 70, and his wife Barbara Edwards both appeared before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday charged with wilful damage.

The pair were charged after they were allegedly caught on camera keying luxury cars at inner north Brisbane’s Brookside Shopping Centre in Mitchelton last month.

Mr Edwards was allegedly caught using his key to damage a white BMW and a Tesla in the carpark.

They can allegedly be seen in the footage from the damaged Tesla’s on-board cameras, first obtained by 7 News, weaving through the parked cars before keying the vehicles.

Wearing a Gucci T-shirt, Ms Edwards was also allegedly seen in the footage keying the cars.

When the pair arrived at Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday, they were flanked by family and friends in a bid to avoid being filmed or photographed.

A similar commotion occurred as the group left court on Monday after a brief mention, with supporters blocking TV cameras and photographers from trying to speak with the couple.

The pair are yet to enter a formal plea, but their defence lawyer, Bruce Peters, told the court that they were “anxious to deal with it because of the media attention” and indicated they would be pleading guilty.

Prosecutors are still trying to confirm the cost of the damage from the owners’ insurance.

The matter was adjourned to January 16 for further mention.
