Queensland’s Premier says she cannot continue to keep Queensland safe if she doesn’t win a majority government at the October 31 election.

The day before the state goes into caretaker mode, Annastacia Palaszczuk on Monday ruled out doing any deals with minor parties or independents, begging Queenslanders to make their vote count.

She said she expected the election campaign to be “tough, personal and nasty”.

On the day before writs are issued, Ms Palaszczuk pleaded with constituents to give her a majority government.

“I cannot be any clearer, minority governments don’t work. Every single vote is going to count,” she said.

“I’m asking Queenslanders for a majority government so I can continue the work we have been doing … in keeping Queenslanders safe.

“I can absolutely rule out no deals. I need a majority government.

“If we are going to continue our path to economic recovery, if we’re going to continue our strong health response, I’m asking Queenslanders for a majority government.”

Ms Palaszczuk made a similar statement in 2015 when she was opposition leader but formed a minority government after striking a deal with then independent MP Peter Wellington.

Ms Palaszczuk said Mr Wellington had aligned himself with the Labor Party, but that would not work this time around.

“What we’ve seen during the last term is a majority government, and a majority government allows me to get on with the job,” she said.

It comes amid reports the LNP will preference Labor last in every seat.

The LNP has been contacted for comment.
