Prime Minister Scott Morrison to travel to New Zealand to meet with Jacinda Ardern
Scott Morrison and his wife will travel to New Zealand later this month to meet with Jacinda Ardern and discuss ‘many shared challenges’.
Scott Morrison will visit New Zealand later this month to meet with Jacinda Ardern in the Prime Minister’s first overseas visit for the year.
Mr Morrison will travel to Queenstown with his wife Jenny from May 30 to 31 for the two prime ministers’ annual leaders meeting.
“This will be my first overseas visit for 2021 and it is fitting that our first trip should be across the Tasman,” he said in a statement on Monday.
“Australia and New Zealand are family — and we share deep historical bonds of friendship, trust and the ANZAC spirit.
“Both Australia and New Zealand have been world leaders in our response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and this visit is a great illustration of the trans-Tasman safe travel zone in action.”
Mr Morrison said he and his New Zealand counterpart also had “many shared challenges” to discuss.
“We are key partners in delivering COVID-19 vaccines to our Pacific neighbours,” he said.
“We share common goals and values for the Indo-Pacific region and we are major trading partners.”
