A woman has been charged with the murder of her husband, with police alleging she cut up his body to hide the remains.

Officers attached to Bankstown Police Area Command were first called to a home on Juno Pde in Greenacre, in Sydney’s west, back in July last year in search of a missing 62-year-old man.

He had not been seen since May that year, NSW Police said in a statement.

Police immediately commenced inquiries to locate the man, including a public appeal for information.

Detectives attached to the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad later established Strike Force Tannerie to investigate the incident after the man’s appearance was deemed “suspicious”.

On Thursday, strike force detectives arrested the missing man’s wife, 53, at a hospital in Bankstown.

She was taken to Bankstown Police Station and charged with murder.

At the same time, a crime scene search warrant was executed on the Greenacre home.

“Detectives will allege in court the woman killed her husband before cutting up his body to hide the remains,” NSW Police said in a statement.

Following a brief appearance before Bankstown Local Court on Friday, she was further refused bail to appear before Burwood Local Court on December 11.

Investigations under Strike Force Tannerie continue.
