Pilot perishes in Far North Queensland plane disaster

A pilot has perished in far north Queensland after his plane crashed into dense bushland south of Townsville.

A pilot has died after his plane crashed in bushland south of Townsville in far north Queensland.

An aerial search located the wreckage near Shirbourne on Sunday morning after the aircraft failed to land at Ayr.

After the alert was raised about the missing aircraft around 9.30am, authorities launched a search.

“The aircraft was located during an aerial search and the pilot and sole occupant was located deceased at the scene,” Queensland Police said.

“The Forensic Crash Unit will investigate the circumstances of the crash.”

A report will also be prepared for the coroner.
