A popular apple juice sold at Coles supermarkets in NSW and Victoria has been urgently recalled over contamination fears.

The Original Juice Co’s black label cloudy apple juice with the expiry date of October 7, 2021, may have been contaminated by Mycotoxin-Patulin, the recall notice states.

The microbial, a toxic compound naturally produced by certain types of moulds, may cause serious illness if consumed.

According to the World Health Organisation, the adverse effects of consuming mycotoxins range from “acute poisoning to long-term effects such as immune deficiency and cancer”.

Food Standards Australia said the product should be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.

They also urge anyone who has drunk the juice and is now concerned about their health to “seek medical advice”.
