A Sydney woman has become Oz Lotto’s biggest individual lottery winner in Australian history after scoring the entire $100m jackpot.
The Elizabeth Hills woman thought she was dreaming or being pranked when she received the late-night phone call from lottery officials after the draw on Tuesday night.
“That’s crazy! I just finished watching tonight’s episode of Married At First Sight and I was falling asleep as you called me,” she told The Lott.
“It’s 10pm here and when I saw multiple missed calls, I thought, ‘Who would be calling me at this time?’ I was worried something was wrong!
“I still can’t believe it. I only treat myself to lotteries when there’s a big jackpot, and I saw $100m on offer in Oz Lotto and decided to give it a go.”
The western Sydney woman said the life-changing windfall would allow her to cut back on work and buy her own home.
“I love my job, but I won’t need to work seven days a week anymore – it’s actually really nice to think that I won’t need to work,” she said.
“I’ll finally be able to buy a place of my own … (and) I’ll start treating myself more. I’ll go on some holidays!”
The winning numbers drawn on Tuesday night were: 3 34 35 26 44 39 36. Supplementaries were 5 45 6.
In addition to the single winning division one entry, there were more than 1.8 million wins across divisions two to seven with a combined $42m in prize money.
Twenty-six division two winners each scored almost $60,000.
Punters hoping for a big win have another chance on Thursday when the Powerball jackpots to $60m.
One-third of Australian adults had been expected to buy a ticket for a chance to win Oz Lotto’s largest jackpot of the year.
The Oz Lotto jackpot increased from $50m to $75m and then to $100m after the it failed to produce a winner for two weeks in a row.
The last time Oz Lotto reached this eye-watering size was in 2012 when four division one winners shared the coveted $100m jackpot.
Speaking on Tuesday morning, The Lott official Khat McIntyre urged entrants to be on the lookout for a Queensland 07 number after the draw.
“Hearing the raw emotion through the phone is unforgettable and the excitement is always contagious,” Ms McIntyre told Yahoo News.
Ms McIntyre said those who received the call might not believe their ears at first, recalling previous winners screaming with excitement and erupting into joyous laughter once they learnt the result.
“Some winners check their ticket multiple times, others wake up in the middle of the night thinking it was all a dream,” she said.
“Then comes the exciting part, which is deciding how to spend it.”
