NSW Premier Chris Minns recreates infamous Berejiklian Origin photo

The NSW premier has taken a cheeky dig at predecessors as an infamous photo resurfaces, this time with a twist.

They might be on opposite sides of politics but when it comes to State of Origin, the NSW Premiers are determined to show who’s boss even if it is for a ridiculous photo opportunity.

Labor Premier Chris Minns has followed on from his two Liberal predecessors with a cheeky dig at what now looks like to be a time honoured tradition of the meme-worthy photo former premier Gladys Berejiklian created in 2021.

Last year, it was Ms Berejiklian’s immediate successor Dominic Perrottet’s turn.

Mr Minns added: “You know I had to do it.”

Mr Perrottet had recreated the infamous 2021 photo of Ms Berejiklian standing awkwardly in front of a tiny screen wearing NSW Blues attire and holding a can of Coke Zero.

“Getting ready for Game 1. Go the NSW Blues!” Ms Berejiklian tweeted.

Now, the latest NSW premier has shared with the world his own version.

Mr Minns is seen clutching just a regular Coke can instead of the Coke Zero his predecessors were holding.

Game 1 will be played in Adelaide for the second time in history after a huge turnout in 2021.

It’s expected about 50,000 fans will be cheering on both teams as they go head to head for the first time in 2023.

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas, who is great mates with his NSW counterpart, said he let fate decide who he’s backing.

“Premier Minns from NSW is saying, ‘Pete, you’ve gotta back the Blues,’ Annastacia is saying I’ve gotta go for the Maroons,” Premier Malinauskas said, holding a blank footy at Adelaide Oval.

“This footy is going to decide who I’m barracking for on Wednesday night.”

“I bag for the Blues!” the Premier said.

Mr Minns and the Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk have made a bet the loser of tonight’s game will when the winning state’s jersey.
