NSW Police arrest 22-year-old Gosford man over dramatic pursuit in stolen car
A man driving an allegedly stolen car will front court after a dramatic police pursuit ended when the car slammed into a brick wall, leaving a wave of destruction.
A man will face court after allegedly ramming several vehicles during a dramatic pursuit before the stolen car slammed into a brick wall.
An allegedly stolen silver Mitsubishi Outlander was spotted while NSW Police were patrolling Benham Ave, Wyoming on the NSW Central Coast at about 3.15pm on Tuesday.
The car had been reported stolen from White St, East Gosford hours earlier.
Police will allege when the 22-year-old male driver of the stolen car failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated before it was terminated for safety reasons.
Police again pursued the stolen car again a short time later in an effort to stop the driver.
However, footage captured by a member of the public allegedly showed the stolen car hitting the back of a bus in Gosford.
While on Mann St, the driver then allegedly continued to crash into several other vehicles including two police cars in an effort to flee.
Police will further allege the car drove directly at two officers on foot causing them to take evasive action
The car ultimately collided with a brick wall moments later.
Police will allege the driver then ran from the stolen car before he was arrested at the scene by officers.
A senior constable received minor injuries during the incident, as a result of the man allegedly attempting to resist arrest.
A woman and two young children who were in one of the cars damaged during the ordeal on Mann St were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries.
The Gosford man was taken to Gosford Police Station and also treated for minor injuries by paramedics.
The man was the holder of a suspended learners drivers licence and was also allegedly breaching bail conditions from an unrelated matter.
He was charged with stealing a motor vehicle, taking and driving conveyance without consent of owner, driving a motor vehicle while licence suspended, police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, using etc offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, hindering or resisting police officer in the execution of duty and breach of bail
The man has been refused bail to appear at Gosford Local Court on Wednesday.
