Regional NSW towns issued COVID alert after infectious man embarks on road trip

People who attended a Woolworths and Chemist Warehouse in Avalon and a pharmacy in Wentworthville have been asked to get tested for COVID-19 and isolate until they receive a negative result.

NSW Health issued the alert on Thursday, for people who visited the ChemSave Day & Night Pharmacy on Station St in Wentworthville between 10.40am-10.50am and 9.30pm-9.40pm on January 3.

People who attended the Chemist Warehouse on Barrenjoey Rd in Avalon between 1pm-1.15pm on January 3 must also isolate until a negative test result is received.

The same goes for those at Avalon Woolworths on the following dates and times: January 2 3.45pm-4pm; January 3 12.45pm-1pm; January 4 6.30pm-6.50pm; January 5 4.45pm-5pm; January 6 1pm-1.15pm.

Late on Wednesday residents at two popular holiday spots were placed on alert after a positive coronavirus case visited a local store and a restaurant.

An infected person was at the Nostalgia Factor Shop at Kangaroo Valley on December 27. Anyone there between 11.20am and 11.30am has been told to get tested and isolate until they receive a negative result.

The same goes for anyone who ate at the Taj Indian Restaurant in the beachside town of Huskisson.

People who dined there on December 27 between 4.45pm and 5.20pm must also get tested.

New advice was issued for those at a game of cricket in Parramatta.

An infected person was at the Ollie Webb Cricket Ground in Parramatta for almost four hours on December 28 to play a social cricket match.

Those who participated in the game between 7.30am and 11am are considered close contacts and must get tested and isolate for two weeks regardless.

Anyone in the grand stand during that period should get tested and isolate until negative.

Also, people who visited the Merrylands RSL on December 28 from 4pm to 6pm are now considered casual contacts, rather than close contacts as previously warned.

There were four new cases in NSW on Wednesday with two linked to the growing Berala cluster. One of the new cases, a man in his 30s from western Sydney, was infected by an unknown source.

Another is a teenager who went on a camping trip in rural NSW.

“There was testing of his travel companions after the case first announced yesterday, who visited the towns in western NSW, all have tested negative to date,” NSW chief health officer Dr Kerry Chant said.

The Berala cluster now numbers 16 cases, and the Avalon cluster has 149 cases associated with it.
