A former real estate agent accused of stabbing a woman has been charged with trespassing on two properties near his ritzy eastern suburbs home during a bizarre midnight excursion.

Matthew Brian Ramsay, 46, is facing a charge of causing grievous bodily harm to a person with intent to murder and two counts of unlawfully entering inclosed lands without permission.

He was excused from appearing in court on Tuesday as he is living at a residential rehabilitation facility in Port Stephens.

Police allege the former real estate agent stabbed a woman in the chest after she answered the door of her $4.5m home in Dover Heights on August 8.

He allegedly plunged a 20cm knife into the chest of the mother of two in broad daylight while her family were out of the house.

Police allege he said “I’m really sorry” before he caused the 4cm puncture wound very close to her heart.

He withdrew the blade and then swung the knife at her again but missed stabbing her a second time, according to police. The woman managed to open the front door and a fierce struggle ensued, police claim.

She was allegedly covered in blood and had her arm in a sling when she was wheeled out in an ambulance.

Mr Ramsay was arrested a short time later at the traffic lights on Campbell Parade in Bondi Beach. Footage from the arrest appears to show an officer pointing a gun at him while yelling at him to “get down on the ground”.

Three weeks before the former high-flying real estate agent allegedly stabbed the woman, police allege he was caught trespassing on two properties only one kilometre from his Bellevue Hill home.

Court documents show Mr Ramsay was charged with illegally entering two properties on Riddell St around midnight on July 17 without the owners’ consent.

His lawyer Andrew O’Brien told the court that he would be applying for the two charges to be dismissed on mental health grounds later this month.

The court was told the application would be dealt with on November 21 when Mr Ramsay is due to return to court for a subpoena issue relating to his grievous wounding charge.

The court was told the Crown was still waiting for crucial items of evidence needed to progress the matter, including medical records.

Mr O’Brien said Mr Ramsay was still undergoing treatment at the luxurious Global Connect rehabilitation facility in Swan Bay. When he was granted bail in September, the court ordered him to remain at the property 24 hours a day.

The 46-year-old was told he would not be allowed to communicate with the outside world and would be subject to random drug and alcohol tests regularly.

Mr Ramsay is forbidden to contact the woman or her family or to enter the eastern suburbs of Sydney.
