A 17-year-old girl has died after falling from a Sunshine Coast cliff while attempting to take a photograph.

A 17-year-old girl has died after reportedly jumping a safety fence and slipping off a cliff while trying to take a photograph on the Sunshine Coast.

The teenager fell 30 metres at a lookout on Queen of Colonies Parade in Moffat Beach. Police were called to the scene at around 6.40pm last night.

Bystanders and paramedics flocked to help the young girl, however, she died at the scene due to serious head injuries.

Ryan Dubyk from Queensland’s Fire and Rescue told 9News people should “just stay back” from the fences when visiting lookouts.

“Especially this time of the year, but throughout the whole year, just please respect the barriers that are put in place … Just stay back,” he said.

Another woman reportedly experienced minor injuries in her effort to help the teenager.

The teen reportedly attended the lookout with her family.

Police have begun preparing a report for the coroner.
