Melbourne: Neighbour saves Reservoir family of six from burning house

A neighbour frantically banging on the windows of a burning house has saved the family of six inside.

An elderly neighbour has been injured helping a family of six escape their burning house as it was engulfed in fire.

The incident happened in Melbourne’s northern suburbs early on Thursday morning.

Firefighters have commended the neighbour who banged on the house windows for getting the Reservoir family of six out safely.

The neighbour was treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation.

Eleven fire trucks and 30 firefighters were called to McPherson St about 3am.

The back of the weatherboard house, home to two adults and four children, was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

It took 30 minutes for firefighters to get the fire under control. The rear of the house has been significantly damaged, and the rest of the house has been damaged by smoke and water.

What started the fire is not known, and investigators will be on scene on Thursday morning trying to figure out the cause.
