A man was missing after his car plunged 10m into the water after rolling down a boat ramp, sparking a major rescue operation.
The body of a man has been pulled from the water after his car rolled down a boat ramp and struck a woman before plunging into the water at Sydney Harbour.
Emergency services were called to O’Connell St in Greenwich about 4.15pm on Monday following reports a car had plunged into the Parramatta River near the boat ramp.
A woman had reportedly been pulled from the water by two onlookers who jumped 5m off a ledge to rescue her and took her to a nearby boat.
A police spokesman confirmed the woman was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital suffering a suspected broken ankle, bruises, abrasions and shock.
Following an intensive search for the 86-year-old man, police recovered his body from the river.
“Police were told the man is known to the woman,” a statement from NSW Police read.
A crime scene has been established and police have launched an investigation into the incident.
A report will be prepared for the coroner. Police will also be working to recover the vehicle for a forensic examination.
The Parramatta River reaches a depth of around 10m at Manns Point.
