Geelong man assisting police after elderly man stabbed to death at Sir Charles Hotham Hotel
An elderly man has been killed in a stabbing at a hotel overnight, with police arresting a man in relation to the attack.
A 34-year-old Geelong man is assisting police after an elderly man was stabbed to death while staying at a hotel in the city.
An 82-year-old New Zealand national was found injured in an upstairs room at the Sir Charles Hotham Hotel on Brougham St in Geelong at about 11.50pm on Wednesday, according to Victoria Police.
The 82-year-old died at the scene and the other man left the area before police arrived.
Initial investigations led police to believe the elderly man and his attacker were known to each other because they were both staying at the hotel.
Police have since arrested a 34-year-old Geelong man on Elizabeth St in Melbourne’s CBD.
He is expected to be interviewed in relation to the death.
The fatal incident occurred only hours after another a man was found with stab wounds at a bus stop in Wyndham Vale, in Melbourne’s southwest.
Police were called to the bus stop on Haines Drive at about 8pm on Wednesday following reports of an altercation.
The man was treated at the scene but died from his injuries.
Police allege two people fled the scene along Vaughn St before first responders arrived.
Anyone with information about either incident has been urged to come forward.
