Man jailed after being caught with 30,000 digital files of child abuse material
A man has been jailed after a police search of his home uncovered more than 30,000 images and videos depicting child abuse material.
A South Australian man has been jailed for almost one year after being caught with more than 30,000 images and videos showing child abuse material.
The 53-year-old fronted the Adelaide District Court on Tuesday after being charged with possessing the abusive material.
He was sentenced to one year and nine months imprisonment but was ordered to serve 10 months behind bars before being able to apply for bail on a 12-month good behaviour bond.
He pleaded guilty to the offence on April 30 this year.
Police launched an investigation in October 2019 after receiving information that a computer user in Australia accessed and traded child abuse material through a peer-to-peer network.
The account was connected to the Adelaide man.
The South Australia Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team (SA JACET) found abusive material on his laptop, phone, USBs and external hard drives that were seized after his home was searched in November last year.
They also found a list of handwritten website addresses for sites that featured child abuse material.
Anyone with information about people involved in child abuse and exploitation is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
