A passer-by found the man lying on a major highway with upper-body injuries and he has been taken to hospital.

A man has been found injured on a major highway.

A passer-by found a 51-year-old man with upper-body injuries lying on the Maroondah Highway in Melbourne.

The man was lying on the inbound lane between Mt Dandenong Rd and Warrandyte Rd just after 4am on Wednesday.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson confirmed paramedics responded to reports of an incident in Ringwood on Wednesday morning.

“One person has been transported to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with upper-body injuries,” the spokesperson said.

Police have launched an investigation into the surrounding circumstances.
