A man in his 30s has been taken to hospital after police believe he accidentally shot himself with a homemade gun.

A man has accidentally shot himself with a homemade gun in Melbourne’s southeast.

The incident happened in the early hours of Monday in a Dandenong laneway.

The man has been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injures.

Police and ambulance crews were called to an alleyway off Scott Street about 1.15am on Monday.

A 37-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound.

Police found a homemade firearm nearby and have set up a crime scene.

“It is believed the man accidentally discharged the firearm at himself,” a police spokesperson said.

Police are investigating, and anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers.
